Day two of construction

Today, I went over to my buddy Daniel's place, and we continued work on the new Carnival of Souls attraction for 2005. Unlike yesterday, today was pleasantly overcast with just a bit of cooling showers, so I was in no danger of worsening my sunburn. We made great progress, and have it nearly all framed out. All that's left is the top.

I've set up a Flickr album that I'll put construction photos into as we build.

I was wondering what you were building. I read your how-to for the crypt, so that is what I am building this year. Thanks for the how-to.

Glad to hear that the how-to for the "Crypt of the Phantasm" came in handy for someone! I hope it works out for you as well as it worked out for us. Be sure to send me some photos - I'd love to see how it turned out for you.

With regard to what we're building this year, well, I'll be preparing a more detailed description of it closer to Halloween, but the short answer is that we're building another graveyard structure to match last year's crypt, only this one will allow the trick-or-treater's to go inside. We still haven't finalized what exactly is going to happen in there, which is why I'm reluctant to give a lot of details, but we have enough ideas that I think it's safe to say it's going to be an awesome addition to the "Carnival of Souls" lineup of attractions.

Wow, that sounds awesome already. Almost like a interactive grave yard, maybe? Maybe they could press a button and something comes out of the ground? Anyway here are my pictures. I am not completely done yet. I still have a little more of detail yet to go on the front and a little on the base. There are other props here so I guess just ignor them. But here they are. http://photobucket.com/albums/y260/lovermonkey/

Also, I love your magic mirror. I have not used it for my haunt yet but maybe next year. I know you get suggestion all the time, but I think it would be cool if you could add an interactive game to it so that the kids could win a treat. Kinda like the shell game. The computer would randomize spots A B and C and then show the trick or treater what they get. Of course, you would need three types of treats. And then at the end you would tell them what they win. Like a big candy bar etc. Sorry about the suggestion, I have been thinking about it for a while.

Wow, that looks fantastic! I see that you're embellishing on our original design with some steps, skull-headed filials on a two-sided gate, skull heads, and a floor. Spectacular work! (I also like the "Phantom of the Opera" reference.) I think your visitors are going to love it.

Most people don't know that I got that from the Phantom of the Opera. For a Electronics and Computer guy, like me, I didn't think I could build a crypt. Thank you and thanks again for the tutorial.

I'm glad the tutorial was helpful. All the work I put into it is now officially worth it. Heh.

By the way, your version of the crypt is so cool, I decided to feature it on my blog. Hopefully, your version will help inspire even more people to build cool Halloween decorations for the enjoyment of the neighborhood kids.

Sure, I would be honored to be on your blog.

I have another person that built a crypt from your site. Many call her WormyT. She was on Extreme Halloween on HGTV last year. I don’t if you have seen that show. Her pictures are here if you would like to see them. Can’t image why she wouldn’t mind. She seems to really love to build Halloween decorations all for the kids.

Wow, thanks for the tip. I remember WormyT from her many interesting posts during my brief subscription to Halloween-L. (Unfortunately, the traffic level on that list was too much for me!) It would be very cool to see one of these crypts on HGTV one year!
