Nostalgia Games: Creature Castle

Being the only kid in the house meant that two-player games didn't do much good for you. Still, Creature Castle provided hours of entertainment for me. When I saw this photo of the game board:

Creature Castle Board Game

...I remembered not only the hours I spent drawing my own versions of the creepy monsters in the castle (the mad scientist and the executioner were my favorites), but also a vague recollection of having adapted the rules to work as a one-player game. The one-player rules were nothing clever - basically, I played the role of two players, with one player being "the good guy" and the other player being "the bad guy" to see who would win - but I remember being pretty proud of myself for having figured out a way to play it one-player. I do have a vague recollection of expanding the rules in some fashion, but those innovations are lost in time to me now.

THIS is a great game! I had it as a child and played it over a thousand times with my parents and friends. I've noticed it on eBay a couple of times, it's apparently very rare and pricey now.

I *love* this game -- one of my favourites as a child. Funnily enough, my wife and I just played it! I found it in my mum and dad's attic last weekend when I visited, and brought it back with me. Thanfully it is complete and in very good condition. Shame I didn't have it two weeks ago for Halloween night! I just played as "Igor" and my wife was "Zelda". :)

I loved Creature Castle when I was growing up. I have searched everywhere to find it. Ebay does not have it listed either. Does anyone know where I could find it?

No, I don't know where to find it.

I was recently contacted by someone related to the creation of the game, who was also asking where she could find it, so I think copies are both scarce and in demand.

If I hear of copies for sale, I'll post them. If you have a copy to sell, let me know, and I'll post it.

Creature Castle was ace! I also loved Sorcerer's Cave, a fantastic open ended dungeon crawl.

I played this game for endless hours over a summer vacation spent at my aunt's house. Wish I could find a copy.

Can any of you please tell me the basic rules of the game? We just found our childhood copy of it but the directions were not with it. Thanks!

The game is very similar to Whitman's Dark Shadows game of the previous decade.

I played this game with my sister & our babysitter endlessly for one summer. It was the summer that Blondie's "One Way or Another" was a huge hit, so I associate it with the line "I'm gonna get ya get ya get ya get ya!"

if u want the game, get the The Black Hole Game (Whitman too) around the same time that this one came out just instead of creatures and monsters they have andriod's and max's. saw some on ebay today, ranged from $7-30 dollars... its the exact same game just different cards (board the same too), was playing it today and was thinking of creature castle too...

the rules are simple deal 4 cards, draw one when its your turn, then discard the card needed to move, ends your turn. Only move if u have that card thats on the space infront of you, and one space a turn, if you don't have the card for that space your stuck there till you get one.
